Careful Eyes works inside the browser itself — it inspects images after they're decrypted, using on-device AI. Nothing ever leaves the device. This means better privacy, simpler setup, and no certificate management.
Correct. All image classification happens locally on the device using an AI model that runs in the browser. No images, thumbnails, URLs, or browsing activity are transmitted anywhere. The only network call Careful Eyes makes is checking for extension updates through Chrome's standard update mechanism.
Careful Eyes is designed to satisfy the CIPA visual content filtering requirement. Our school plan includes the admin dashboard with activity logs and audit reports that CIPA compliance audits typically require. We recommend schools consult with their E-rate consultant to confirm eligibility for their specific situation.
Careful Eyes is currently available as a Chrome browser extension, which works on Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, and Linux. iOS and Android apps are in development. The Chrome extension is ideal for school Chromebook deployments via Google Admin.
When deployed through Google Admin (the school plan), the extension is force-installed and cannot be removed or disabled by students. For family use, parental controls prevent children from modifying the extension without a parent's password.
